Jude Law is transforming into a fictional ruthless leader of the Catholic Church for the new HBO show “The Young Pope”.Law plays Pius XIII (born Lenny Belardo), the first American-born Pope who served as the Archbishop of NY. Previously known as Lenny Belardo (Law), he is a complex and conflicted character full of compassion towards the weak and poor. Memes are plentiful, but mostly great – as long as they’re not used in an attempt to sway people on public issues. The Young Pope falls perfectly into meme territory. The series tells the story of the beginning of Pius XIII’s pontificate. Also starring with Law is Diane Keaton as Sister Mary. Although advertised as a 10-episode limited seires, it has already been picked up for a second season. But based on the trailers, the show seems to be toying with genre.Law was discussing the show at the Television Critics Association press tour this morning (January 14), and it turns out his promotion of The Young Pope has provided him with an unexpected souvenir, or benefit, even: He totally knows what a meme is now.
